Conductive therapy

10/3/20241 min read

Conductive therapy is a therapeutic approach based on the principles of behaviorism that focuses on modifying problem behavior through various learning and intervention techniques. It is mainly used in the treatment of behavior disorders, mental health problems and learning disabilities.

Principles of conductive therapy

Learning through conditioning: Conductive therapy uses both classical conditioning (associating a neutral stimulus with an automatic response) and operant conditioning (learning through the consequences of behavior). The goal is to modify reactions and behaviors through rewards or punishments.

Monitoring behavior: An essential step is to identify problem behavior, understand the context in which it occurs and the factors that maintain it.

Reward and reinforcement: Desired behaviors are reinforced by rewards (positive reinforcement) or by eliminating negative consequences (negative reinforcement), while undesired behaviors are discouraged by withdrawing benefits or enforcing unpleasant consequences.

Teaching alternative behaviors: Patients are taught to replace dysfunctional behaviors with healthy and adaptive alternatives.

Areas of application

Anxiety disorders: Conductive therapy is effective in the treatment of anxiety and phobias, particularly through techniques of gradual exposure to fear-provoking stimuli.

Autism Spectrum Disorders and ADHD: It is used to develop communication, social interaction and autonomy skills.

Behavior management in children: Helps correct oppositional behaviors, aggression or difficulty following rules.

Conductive therapy emphasizes concrete behavior modification and practical solutions based on the scientific principles of behavioral psychology.
